Our Mission
To provide a high quality,
individualised community-oriented service for people over 21 with very
high needs disabilities.
What does this mean?
Each person has a personal programme developed through
our individual planning process.
Typically programmes include:
- catering for peoples' physical wellbeing through
exercise programmes
- Providing educational, vocational and life skills
opportunities in real world settings.
- Encouraging community participation through a range
of social, recreational and leisure activities.
- Workplace participation.
The following activities are available while at the
Centre.
- Craft activities
- Music
- Singing and dancing
- Birthday celebrations
- Reading
- Computer learning opportunities
- Cooking
- Massage – bed, chair, and hand-held massager.
- Exercycle and treadmill.
- Stretching and massage –
supervised by therapist and Managers.
- Physiotherapy – carried out by
physiotherapist
- Speech/Language therapy –
carried out by therapist
- Occupational therapy – carried
out by therapist.
- Wheelchair assessments.
- Life skills – these are within
the Centre and also in the community.
- Petanque and indoor bowls
- DVD/videos
The following activities are carried out within the
community with 1:1 support.
- Library visits – City Council
libraries.
- Gym – Pioneer Leisure Centre.
- Swimming – Pioneer Leisure
Centre.
- Horse riding – NZ Care Riding
for disabled at Westwood Stables.
- Pottery - Avice Hill, Memorial
Ave (ChCh City Council programme)
- Sensory room visits – QE2.
- Work placements – these are
many and varied in the community to suit individuals, including
- Plant Nurseries
- Hairdressers
- Libraries
- Shops
- Transport Firms
- Garages
- Schools
- Cafes
- Panelbeaters
- Meals on Wheels
- Café and restaurant visits
- Mini Golf
- Ten Pin Bowling.
- Movies
- Other assorted recreational
pursuits and community activities such as
visits to Art exhibitions/galleries and
attending special events – e.g. Crusaders victory parade etc.
